Competitive Capital of the US

You could say I was suddenly directed to write a high school football blog. An epiphany, a spark, a jolt of energy, whatever you want to call it. I relate it back to watching way too much Friday Night Lights, with plenty of free time in College. Staying up until 5 am watching High School highlights could have something to do with this sudden excitement. It's hard to explain, but it is the same feeling you get running out of the football tunnel all ready to ignite, I get this tingling when I think about sports...simple as that!
Bingham, Bingham, Bingham. The Miners or as I call them the Bingham Tongans (with the occasional white kid). The powerhouse of Utah football has suddenly become a household name producing loads of talent for BYU and Utah. Other colleges include Nebraska and Oregon. If you haven't seen highlights of these "high school athletes", more like grown men, then I highly recommend a little trip over to THE YouTube.com! After watching video after video, it is clear to me that although Bingham may not have reached the national powerhouse elite yet, they have better athletes than De La Salle, Servite and Don Bosco Prep. Athleticism doesn't always prove to be the deciding factor in producing National Championships or State Titles. The fact that Bingham doesn't win state every year further proves my point. Label my point valid.
Is Bingham better than De La Salle? No. No way. Something about hearing the 3 words "De La Salle"together gives me the chills. De La Salle doesn't have the best athletes in the nation, in fact they don't have that much talent, they just produce, win as a team and are incredibly well-coached. All credit to the great Bob Ladouceur. Not to say De La Salle doesn't have talent. Notable alumni include Maurice Jones-Drew, Amani Toomer and D.J. Williams. Michael Hutchings is just the latest superstar to enter the "machine" that is De La Salle as a good football player and come out as one of the nation's finest. The OLB has committed to USC and has further ensured that De La Salle be called the "Linebacker U of High School". Bingham has athletic, freak athlete Tongans while De La Salle produces talent, production, efficiency and of course National Championships. If you can find a better program anywhere in the nation, in any sport then let me know and I will personally give you a high five... Quite the offer! Bottom line is that if Bingham were to bus themselves out to the competitive capital of the US, the Bay Area and challenge THE Goliath that is De La Salle, they would get rolled. I predict at least a two touchdown margin of victory for the mighty Spartans.
Watching highlights of Rocklin High School vs. Servite in the 2009 Division II State Finals brings back memoriez and honestly my eyes were opened. I have always taken a judgmental view when looking at sports teams and players, and offered criticism rather than praise. During my tenure at Rocklin High I was blinded by the true team that we had on our gridiron that year. To hold our own with the number 3 team in the Nation, with a backup QB and only a 3 point loss is incredible. Some would call this a miracle. "A Christmas Miracle". Rocklin had no business hanging with Servite that year, but because of team play and an eventual Stanford bound running back, we at least humbled the Friars. De La Salle will go down as the best High School Sports program the history books....'Nuff Said.
