Patience is a virtue

The Dwight Howard drama story is over...finally! If your perception of Howard didn't change through this whole "saga", then you need to get your eyes checked. Howard acted like a child, a true Chad Ochocinco move, BARRING the biased opinion (arrest pun intended) he changed your opinion from a superstar to just another victim of becoming too overwhelmed with the media. Magic fans compare this to the Lebron summer of '10. No, no, no...Magic fans at least you got something in return, or did you? Affalo, Harrington's attitude and contract, 4-1st round picks (likely in the 20's), 3 double doubles and 4 chicken skewers to be named later. Magic fans you can thank Otis Smith for this "haul"... The Hornets ultimately got Eric Gordon, Anthony Davis and Austin Rivers and Al Farouq-Aminu. Now, i'm no rocket scientist but that sounds a heck of a lot better than what the Magic received. How about Carmelo? who the Nuggets wanted rid themselves almost as much as the Howard-Magic relationship. Denver received Felton, Galinari, Wilson Chandler, Timofey Mozgov (Bill Simmons idol) and an abundance of picks. Again, a better haul than the Magic. Kids close your eyes, but this was a case of being too patient! Had Otis Smith panicked and shipped Howard off to Brooklyn or LA in the first place like he was supposed to, he would actually have a team to build upon. Brooklyn offered MarShon Brooks, Brook Lopez and a year of Kris Humphrieskardashian. LA and Houston offered Gasol, Kevin Martin, a 1st round pick frenzy and the luxury of taking the contracts of Turkoglu and Jason Richardson off the Orlando's chest. Patience is a virtue but too much patience can turn out to screw over a franchise, exhibit A...the Orlando Magic.

The Lakers are the real winner of this deal, acquiring a top 20 NBA player for the top center in the game. They also just bought themselves an extra year of Kobe Bryant by getting him defensive help. The Lakers are the team to beat out West...sorry OKC. By keeping Pau they should already be the favorites to win the title, because what was their greatest strength? 2 7 footers, they still have that, just a better center. Howard can impact a game possibly more than any player on the planet. He will give the Lakers just another franchise center to build around. Lets face it, Bynum is super talented but his attitude (See: Cousins, Demarcus) is a cause for concern and will never allow him to reach his potential,m fact is you can't build a team around a player like that (See: Sacramento, Kings). The SIxers will have a fun year this year, but past that Bynum will want out of Phila and will feel the need to move to a bigger city and get tired of his "old team". Because of his attitude, he gave up the chance to be the face of the Lakers, the best center in the NBA and the opportunity to win multiple championships. Was it worth it Andrew Bynum? I would love to ask Tyran Mathieu the same thing.
