Lou Piniella, the great Cubs coach retired on Sunday. What a sad day for all baseball fans alike. He has coached teams from the Yankees to the Cubs. He was a great outfielder when he played, and won AL rookie of the year award. He is retiring for a great reason. Lou is retiring to care for his 90 year old failing health mother. Lou does have a heart after all. It may not seem like it, when you see him throwing tantrums and picking up and throwing bases. He may look like a mad man on the field, but he obviously is retiring for a great purpose. Piniella ranks fourth in wins of active coaches, behind only Tony La Russa, Bobby Cox and Joe Torre. When the game nded he took off his cap and waved it in the direction of his good and Braves coach Bobby Cox. Lou is and will always be and go down as one of the best coaches of all time.
The USA beat their toughest competition today, Spain by one point. A huge win for the US. Kevin Durant led the team with 25 points and two crucial blocks.
