There is one month left in the MLB and only a few teams left in the playoff race. The NL is still open, with the Cardinals, Phillies, Giants and yes the Rockies.
The Cardinals should be worried. They have one of the elite pitching staffs in the league and defensive wise they are solid, but they have an achilies heel. They can't hit. If you get past the 3,4 punch of Albert Pujols and Matt Holiday then you are fine, and have a great chance of winning. Looks like they should have never traded Ryan Ludwick. They are going to need another bat if they ever want to run away with their division. They won't win the wild card and their best chance of seeing the playoffs is catching the Reds. Don't be surprised if they still win the division.
The Phiilies should be excited. They are leading the wild card race right now and I expect them to hold that. They have had a good year so far, even without their main stars. Ryan Howard, Jimmy Rollins and Chase Utley have all been out this year with injuries. Now they have those superstars back and are ready to roll. This pitching staff as well is very solid with Doc Halladay, Roy Oswalt and Cole Hamels. Expect them to win the wild card.
The Giants should be patient. If they hit, their in. That has been a phrase in the past, when discussing the Giants playoff chances. Lately it seems to be if you pitch and continue to hit, your in. Right now the Giants are not running on all cylinders. When their pitching is off their batting is on and vice versa. It is hard to find this team hitting and pitching. If this team wants to make the playoffs, Tim Linceceum has to be a real ace.
The Rockies should be thankful. This year the wild card is anyones race and if the Rockies finish the season strong, they may win the wild card. They have plenty of their last few games against division opponents, to catch up. They are fully capable at going on winning streaks. Why is it we never think the Rockies have a good team and right at the end of the year we always talk to them. They have a great hitting team and are very young. Expect this team to catch up real fast and then play great baseball at the end of the year, to make a run at the playoffs.
