The Kirk Gibson of the Blogging World

Good afternoon sports world! While Keegan is out in New York writing columns for the New York Times, ESPN and attending sporting events of all kind, C-Fo will be filling in for the day. Don't exit out and don't think you will get better analysis from another blogger who is pathetically sitting on his couch with his mountain dew in his right hand and potato chips in his left hand. This is different. No, I am not thee Keegan Darby.

I am kind of like Terrell Owens taking over for Jerry Rice. Steve Young for Joe Montana. Andrew Bynum for Shaq Daddy. And even Lebron James for Quentin Richardson(Richardson has a ring, Lebron doesn't). I am good but not as good as my predecessor. So let's get to it.

What an exciting day in sports. It just so happened that this was my day off this week and what a day to have off. With so much going on I was looking forward to reading this blog to get a one of a kind analysis on the day. I was disappointed when I heard Keegan was busy fulfilling bigger and better tasks so I had to write.

The 49ers successfully achieved their 8th consecutive losing season in a row by signing Alex Smith to a 1 year deal today. Seriously? Get your head out of your butt Jed York and realize that Smith's 7th chance won't do him any better. Yes, we did get a heck of a coach this off-season in Jim Harbaugh but this move is pathetic. I do see this as a possible great move however. Andrew Luck is set to turn Pro next year and he will be the unanimous No. 1 pick. Harbaugh knows Smith is about as good JaMarcus Russell and there is no other QB who could lose more games for the Niners than Smith. And how convenient would it be that the Niners finish with the NFL's worst record and coincidentally are set up for the No. 1 pick in the 2012 draft. I guess it is a win-win for the Niners. If a Harbaugh and Luck reunion did happen, Harbaugh may want to think about getting more fingers to fit all those rings that would be coming in.

McNabb to the Vikings? Josh Childress really must love Chunky soup because that is about the only thing McNabb brings to this team. I hate the trade and don't see why the Vikings did this.

As expected, Holmes signed a lucrative contract to remain with the Jets. The most impressive thing about this headline was Sanchez saying that he would take a paycut to keep Holmes on the team. I think this is a sign that Rex Ryan has really won the team over and has instilled in them that they will win the Super Bowl. It is a team game and Sanchez seems to be a rare player who doesn't care about the money. Love him(not for the fact that he appeared on the cover of GQ though). And if the Niners don't win the Super Bowl, Ryan will be holding the Lombardi trophy in February with Belichick realizing his career is over.

Second to the Niners, the dumbest move of the day has to go to the Cardinals. Kevin Kolb has gotten all this hype but why? 7 TD's and 7 INT's with a QB rating of 76.1 last year! The Cards want to give up DRC, a pro bowl CB, along with a 2nd round pick!? Be my guest though, they are in the Niners conference and it will only increase the Niners chance at the playoffs :)

Congrats to the Titans. You got the newest version of Kerry Collins. Hasselbeck will play about ten games before going out with a knee injury and will get the Titans to .500. The dude is 34 years old and has had an injury plagued career. Chris Johnson better be preparing for a 3,000 yard rushing season for the Titans to have a chance.

The winner of the free agency period has to go to the San Diego Chargers. They have flown under the radar but have signed some solid FA's and have hung onto good talent. Takeo Spikes, Bob Sanders, Randy McMichael and Jeromey Clary is a solid first day of free agency. I have always been a fan of Spikes because of his leadership and toughness. Sanders may have lost a step but he is a former defensive player of the year and a tremendous safety. McMichael and Clary is nothing special but is a solid pickup. Hanging onto Vincent Jackson is more than solid.

And after the great Keyshawn Johnson we will turn to the C'MON MAN feature...

I am proposing a change in the major leagues. Angels pitcher Santana recorded a "no-hitter" today, but recorded 1 run? If you record a run it should not be called a no hitter. I don't care if the run came on errors or what but while Santana was on the mound a runner crossed the plate. Nice outing, but it shouldn't be a no hitter if the other team scored. C'MON MAN!

Jerry Meals, I don't care how tired you were or how sick you were of watching the Pirates and Braves take the field inning after inning you need to make the right call! That was hands down the worst call I have seen. C'MON MAN!

Carlos Beltran, welcome to the Giants. Beltran gives the Giants a much needed bat and will be an awesome addition. I was nervous when I looked to see who the Giants had to give up but was pleasantly surprised when I saw :). Zack Wheeler!? who!? Who you ask? A Single A pitcher who is 7-5 this season with a 3.99 ERA. I would rather sign my 11 year old brother Chubs. According to him he posted a 11-1 record with a .0094 ERA last season and even wore the Eric Gagne googles, freakin' stud! I understand the Mets wanting to get rid of Beltrans contract but they are even paying for $6 million of the remaining contract! So to the Mets GM, Sandy Alderson, C'MON MAN!!

I came I saw I conquered. Keegan, we look forward to you resuming your lesser responsibilities and getting back to this blog. Watch out for Lincecum owning the Phillies tonight. Any guesses on where Asomugha will end up?

It's been a pleasure Keegs, but a hot girl(my wife) and a bubbly are waiting for me at the pool...

  1. C Fo, that was a great blog. The analytical comparisons and sports explanations are one of a kind. I speak for all of keeganskickoff and the millions of followers when I say "if the whole business job doesn't work out (or whatever it is your doing in the desert of Arizona) you have a very prosperous and successful writing career ahead of you. I have entertained numerous offers from the great company of ESPN and they have been contract talks with me and we will just have to wait and see what happens with that you may have a n offer coming your way soon to "guest appear" and write on keeganskickoff. I have had two guest writers and both you and Sean Peters have exceeded expectations greatly. Keeganskickoff will be expanding and continue to get bigger and better. In order to do that we need to mix things up a little and so having a guest writer every week would be great. I would have you write on your most knowledgeable subject which seems to be the NFL. Great job C Fo!
