Draft Grades

Amid all the trade RUMORS, and the ongoing Dwight Howard saga it was an uneventful evening. I just want the Dwight to take his temper tantrum to a different city so we no longer have to hear about it. The evening was filled with "boo's", well deservedly too. David Stern was mocking the fans by purposely emphasizing some words and and putting his hand to his hear like he couldn't hear the NY crowd. Whether you agree or not that Stern rigged the lottery, we can all agree that is incredibly immature and unprofessional.

Anthony Davis will be an all star and will mature before the season even starts, as he was added to the Olympic roster. The first steal of the draft was when the Hornets took Doc's kid Austin Rivers with the 10th pick. It was obvious he didn't fit at Duke because he already plays an NBA style game which isn't surprising because he was raised in NBA locker rooms since the age of 4. New Orleans gets an A rating for the haul they pulled in, along with Darius Miller. Stern couldn't be happier. I actually read comissioner Stern's lips when he "congratulated" Anthony Davis on stage. If I am correct he said "Anthony just don't tell anyone about how you were chosen to be on this team, we all do things unfair that we aren't proud of sometimes." I don't know what was cooler seeing Austin and his dad sitting at the same table or how attractive Austin Rivers sister is. Wait a second did I just call Doc Rivers daughter attractive?? Okay, time to move on.

The first surprise of the night was the Cavs taking Dion Waiters with the fourth pick. I LOVE that pick. Waiters is a stud, and will score, score, score. He is the best one on one player in the draft that can drive and shoot. Along side an elite point guard like Kyrie Irving, he will be a star. Waiters is my pick for rookie of the year.

Kidd-Gilchrist is my favorite player out of this draft but Charlotte should have taken Bradley Beal, because they need scoring. MKG will never be an elite scorer, where Bradley Beal has that potential. MKG needed to go to a team and be their second or third best player already with an elite scorer, that would be the perfect situation for him. Beal will be solid with Wall, that just became a very very solid back court especially because Beal won't be asked to do too much and he can grow into his role.

Also I loved the Kings choice in Thomas Robinson, because he brings another big body down low to play with Demarcus Cousins and he is immediately ready to play. The scary thing is Thomas Robinson may be the most mature player on that roster. I just hope the thugs don't distract him, but knowing the Kings and Geoff Petrie they will find a way to screw it up. So Kings fans, it was a very good addition but don't even say Kings and playoffs in the same sentence.

Picks that I didn't like were Terrence Ross at 8, Meyers Leonard at 11, and Kendall Marshall at 13. Ross is a dime a dozen in these leagues and I can name 10 players just like him who will never be better than a 7th man. Leonard is a 7 foot WHITE center...nuff said! Marshall can't score for his life. I believe in this year's draft the second round will produce a ton of solid rotational and role players in the future. Much more than in years past because of the depth.
