Slam Dunk Contest
The slam dunk contest this year consisted of four extremely talented young players, in Demar Derozan, Serge Ibaka, Javale McGee and the obvious winner Blake Griffin. Before the event began it was obvious that Blake Griffin would win. Blake plays in LA, where the contest was being held and he is 10 times as popular as any other player in this competition. The best dunk of the night had to be Javale McGee's 2 hoop dunk, with two balls. That was exceptional. The most overrated dunk was the dunk that sealed the win for Blake Griffin, the car dunk. If you really think about it he dunked from half way from the free throw line to the basket (Serge Ibaka jumped the whole free throw line) and he did a normal dunk after that. It was all about the show and that is why he won. Advertising and publicity were the describing words of this competition. The car Blake dunked over was a Kia, the official car of the NBA. After the car dunk, the first commercial shown was about the Kia. The camera was focused in on Javale McGee every time that he put on his shoes. They showed him tying both of his shoes in order to advertise the new Chinese basketball brand Peak. If you take away all the flashy shoes, flags, choirs and cars and look at just the dunks, this contest wasn't that great. Although we saw a lot of new creative dunks, none except the free throw line dunk and the two basket dunk, deserved over a 45.

yeah the Dunk contest I used to love as a kid but it's just a drawn out commercial at this point, it's much better to just hit the highlights on sportcenter. so, with only sportscenter to go off of, Javale McGee looked like he had better dunks, though admittedly the whole hanging from the elbow dunk (though stolen) is still pretty amazing to me.
ReplyDeleteYeah but the event was fixed, because the fans voted on the winner and everyone loves Blake Griffin
