Right after you read this blog go to Youtube and watch Anthony Davis' high school mixtape. Then, tell me won't be a star in the NBA. In college we saw him vlock shots and score a little, but his mixtape really emphasizes the type of player he can become. He is a young version of Kevin Garnett. The comparisons are identical. They are both face up jump shot players on offense and on defense they are a force. New Orleans is a 40-45 win team with Davis on the roster. He is a game changer and anything in the paint...don't even bother! Davis, 19 years old was just added to the USA olympic roster, nuff' said.
Second pick is looking like it will be Thomas RObinson, the well oiled, experienced forward from Kansas. I understand that scouts have a problem with his height, but although only 6'9, he rebounds like a 7 footer and that you can't teach. Robinson will be a very good 4 that can provide a solid 14 and 10 every night. I see him as a David Lee/ Paul Millsap type player.
DC has the next pick and the Wizards must decide on one of two guys, either the sharpshooter Bradley Beal or the fundamental Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. Anyone who is really close to me knows that I would take MKG in this spot because he is my favorite player ever to come out of college. No, just because I am mormon doesn't mean I like Jimmer. But I would take MKG because he would pair well with John Wall, Nene and the european dunk champion ladies and gentleman...Jan Vesely!!!!! That would be a solid core the Wiz Kids could certainly build around.
The Cavs pick fourth, Bradley Beal or MKG, whoever is left they take him. Bradley Beal is a Ray Allen type player while MKG is a Gerald Wallace, consistent 16-9 kinda guy.
Fifth pick this year belongs to a D League team, it was really nice of the commissioner to let the Kings draft this year. The Kings should take Harrison Barnes, but who they will take is anyone's guess. I could see them taking a chance on Drummond. That would leave Portland with whoever falls, Drummond or Harrison Barnes. Barnes could turn into a good player, but unfortanatley he is just a shooter. He can't drive or pass, but he can play some defense.
Drummond is a project, not a lot of talent that we have seen, but he has all the tools, sized and speed to become great. He was the fastest player on the UCONN team last year, faster than guys like Shabazz Napier and Jeremy Lamb. I wouldn't draft Drummond just because he is a huge risk and hasn't shown anything. If you can't play well in college then how will you learn in the NBA? Enlighten me, I would love to know. I don't want to hear any of that "He just needs time to develop" garbage, players like him never turn out.
The Warriors need depth at the 4/5 and a small forward. I have heard rumors the Dubs are leaning towards Jared Sullinger, but I don't think he will do much, he isn't worth a top 7 pick. I would love Terrence Jones in a Warriors jersey, or Perry Jones but not Tyler Zeller or Arnett Moultrie. Either way, after the 6th pick there is a massive drop off in talent and potential. The first 6 selected will be Davis, Robinson, MKG, Beal, Barnes and Drummond, no matter what order. It is a deep draft, very talented especially at the 4 position. But to be honest anything but last years draft will be awesome! Kyrie was the only big time talent. I don't see a lot of superstars in this draft but there will be a lot of very very good players.
